Frank Appel, chairman and CEO of Dunhault Group, Germany Post, said: "Trade helps to promote social prosperity and bring about a sustainable future. We believe that logistics is an important pillar of international trade. Assisting the business community to take advantage of "one belt and one road"
In the past 18 months as of June 2016, China has invested more than US $75 billion (67 billion 500 million euros) in building the "one belt and one way" infrastructure, and has fully promoted regional cooperation and trade. Since 2010, in order to fully cooperate with the development of the "one belt and one road" plan, DHL has provided regular rail freight services in several cities in China, and has been connected with its highway transportation schemes across Southeast Asia and maritime services from North Asia, Japan and Taiwan.

Goods from Southeast Asia and other parts of North Asia are transported by road and sea into China's railway system, then connected to Europe, and then through the local road system throughout Europe. This huge service system, which integrates railways, highways and sea routes, provides customers with additional logistics routes and promotes trade between the two major economic regions of Europe and Asia.

Huang Guozhe, Chief Executive Officer of DHL Global Freight China, said: "The company has been committed to building logistics services connecting China and other Asian countries, and connecting them with the European market by combining road, rail and sea transport. This multi-modal transport solution, which integrates all transport modes, enables customers to better manage their supply chains, improve flexibility, save costs and help reduce carbon emissions.

Overall, multimodal transport solutions can reduce transport costs to up to one-sixth of air transport costs and reduce carbon emissions by up to 90 per cent, making them attractive to SMEs and multinational customers.

DHL announced three new multimodal lines today:
  • Sea and rail transport:A LCL service line connecting Japan and Germany allows customers to export small quantities of goods at a cost of only half the standard air freight. Goods start from Kobe and arrive at Taicang by sea. They are then transported by rail through hub cities such as Duisburg, Rhodes, Mavashevich or Warsaw, and eventually reach Hamburg. The whole transportation process takes only about 22 days.
  • Road and rail transport:The whole container freight service line connecting Vietnam and Europe first transports goods by road from Hanoi to Chengdu, and then by rail to European hub cities such as Rhodes, Duisburg and Hamburg. The transportation time is 21 days. The Vietnam-Europe LCL freight service is scheduled to start in the fourth quarter of 2016.
  • Railway, highway and sea transport:In order to strengthen the Southern Railway Transport Corridor opened in 2015, the new Chengdu-Istanbul transport service line crosses the three Central Asian countries, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijani and Georgia, and finally arrives in Istanbul through two transit routes, with a total transportation time of 14 days.
These three new service lines are based on DHL's major investment projects in the past 12 months, including Japan-Suzhou-Warsaw multimodal transport service announced in November 2015 and the signing of a memorandum of cooperation with Chengdu Port and Logistics Office in May 2016 to improve the city's infrastructure and customs processes. Since 2010, DHL has actively cooperated with the "one belt and one way" multi-modal transport solution and launched a series of five services: international railway transportation, railway transportation - air, sea / river transportation - railway transportation, shipping - air transportation and cross - border road freight.
